the 8bd is the modular version of the tr-808 bass drum. the gate in is "sensitive" and affects the sound. the higher the pulse (+5v to +12v) at the gate in the more attack and louder the sound gets. an additional control voltage or a gate signal fed to the vel. cv in (velocity in) will overwrite the dynamic control from the "sensitive" gate in. then the gate in just triggers the sound (>5v) and vel. cv in (0-12v) defines the velocity of the sound.
